The Moroccan Miracles Story

Hello there lovers of beautiful things,

Amal here to tell you how Moroccan Miracles all got started. I am Australian with Moroccan linage and a Moroccan partner. We purchased a rug from a generic store in Geelong, Victoria for our family home and although pricey it turned out to be a total disaster: the fibers did not stop shedding, the rug had pulls and a few days later when we went back to the store they didn’t want to know us.

The very next time we went back to Morocco to see family and friends we purchased a rug to bring back with us. We absolutely fell in love with it, the handcrafted quality, natural fibers and all with an individual artwork that connected us to the amazing work of weaver artists.

I then started noticing vintage Moroccan rugs for sale, but they were often mislabeled or misrepresented - the story of these incredible cultural textiles was missing. I decided to try and fill the gap by bringing amazing handwoven Amazigh textiles to Australia and sharing the story of the weavers and our culture with my local community here in Australia.

We started small - our original collection featured just 6 rugs. Since then our store has grown to over 200 Azilal, Beni Ourain, Boujad, Kilim, and vintage Moroccan rugs.

Vision:

To share some of the rich cultural heritage of our Moroccan culture with our local community in Australia. (We are not just passionate about these rugs, they are part of our culture and its history) Specializing in premium Moroccan rugs, we offer a curated collection of beautifully hand crafted pieces that exude personality, style, creativity and individuality - we’re not following the trends and our pieces are made to last a lifetime!

What we do:

We champion the creativity of our amazing weaver artists!  We respect artistic freedom and encourage our weavers to tell their own story, whatever that may be. We don’t tell our weavers what to make, allowing them, instead,  the freedom to create any design the heart desires. We then bring these beautiful one-of-kind creations to Australia for you. What sets our rugs apart is not just their exquisite craftsmanship, but also the story behind each piece.

How We Source:

My partner comes from Azilal, a region famous for high quality weaving. And I come from a succession of female embroiderers and weavers that have passed down their knowledge and stories of their handcrafted magic through generations.

With this knowledge and connections we work together with our friends and family to source all the rugs in our collections. We respect traditional methods of buying and selling rugs in Morocco and that there is a community behind each rug, not just one woman.

Ethics and Sustainability

We value and respect the traditional avenues of buying and selling rugs in Morocco. It is an industry rooted in family - just like our small family business. The rugs are traditionally woven by women artisans - who process the wool from start to finish by hand. After the weaving is completed, it is the women’s sons and husband who wash the rugs and transport them to markets and sell them. We respect and value each and every step in this process. We work with friends and family on the ground in Morocco to ensure our business is ethical and the majority of money stays within those communities.
